The Bright Future of Australian Education

After nearly two-year recessed market of Australian education, the Australian government eventually issued a new policy—the Knight Review on 22nd, Sep, 2011.

After such of long hard time, the Knight Review brings a lot of good news to both Australian institutions but also Chinese students. The main aspects of the Knight Review are the reduction of the financial requirements, the lower requirement of the IELTS and the application for 2-4 year work visa.

This adjustment seems quite attractive for Chinese students and may lead the Australian oversea education to a more rational way.

Looking back at the history, almost every change of Australian policy will has brought huge impacts in guiding students to choose Australian institutions. This time the biggest impact which I think will be the selection of students. Before, Chinese students always put “Study Abroad in Australia” together with the word “immigration”. They choose the majors which are on the SOL list without thinking whether they like the job or whether the major suit them, all they think is immigration. While, now Chinese market has changed greatly and the students focus more on oversea working experience more than immigration. Under such circumstances, students choose Australia for knowledge itself. And for institutions, they select more qualified and competitive students.

Besides, students’ major choices will be diversified. They won’t just focus on business, accounting, finance, etc. Based on the universal economical environment, students begin to pay close attention to manufacturing, multi-media, environmental science, etc. This is also effectively make a diversion when students choosing their lines of work after graduation.

While, although the Knight Review has not yet implemented, the best way to welcome it and the changes it may bring can be summed up into one word: confidence. Let’s be confident to approach a bright future in Australian education.
